Elbie Visser (Erasmus) is a Stellenbosch based fine artist. She was born and raised in Windhoek, Namibia and moved to South Africa in 2009 to pursue a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria. She graduated in 2012 with a distinction in her practical work and was awarded a bursary prize as one of the top students in her class.
In 2014, Elbie attended a three month faith-based arts residency in Northern Italy alongside a number of international artists. Her time in Italy was very formative in various aspects of her life including how it shaped her views about culture and the arts, and navigating her role as a believing artist in the contemporary art world.
Elbie worked for renowned South African sculptor Angus Taylor at Dionysus Sculpture Works for three years after completing her degree where she learned extensively about bronze sculpture. The skills she learned during this time inspired her to explore jewellery making and she founded Foundri Jewellery in 2015, a sculptural jewellery and fine metal studio.
Currently, Elbie lives in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape and is pursuing a career in Fine Arts, specifically painting, with jewellery design taking a back seat for the time being. She joined the KRUX community in 2019 and has found it deeply enriching to serve, connect with and learn from the other artists, theologians, creatives and thinkers involved.
