Maryke Van Velden
Maryke Van Velden is a Stellenbosch-based artist who enjoys singing and dancing, loves her cat and being outdoors, and is endlessly inquisitive about people.
Maryke completed a BA in Fine Arts (2008) and a Master's Degree in Illustration (2012) at Stellenbosch University. Since then she has taken part in various group exhibitions, lectured in Drawing, worked in curriculum development for the Deaf and most recently worked as creative manager.
Van Velden has an insatiable love of drawing, in the widest sense. She approaches art-making both in an intuitive and conceptual manner. It is the therapeutic physicality embodied in the drawing process that she is most drawn by.
